Future Veggie Projects

Meet Clifford, the Big Red Truck!  Clifford is a 1995 Dodge Ram 2500 SLE 3/4 ton long bed extended cab Cummins Turbo Diesel pickup.  He spent 180,000 miles of his life pulling a horse trailer and has now retired to sunny Georgia to drink biodiesel and run up and down the highway with an empty bed.  This is the mighty 12 valve Cummins DI 5.9L straight six with P-7100 mechanical injection pump.  It took 6 months to find him but he's here and undergoing some modifications.

I have a KDP tabbing kit ready to install along with a new water pump, thermostat, hoses, valve cover gaskets and new belts and hoses.  He's burning B100 poultry fat from US Biofuels in Rome, GA for now.  He will eventually get a 91 gallon tool tank in the bed for either more B100 or possibly another SVO conversion! (I'm considering converting him with a kit from VegPower in Ithaca, New York.)

His suspension is a little tired so he'll be getting Bilsteins and new ball joints after the engine maintenance is complete.  I'm looking forward to putting some veggie miles on this one!

Meet Shamu, the road warrior and land yacht!  I picked up this 1997 GMC Suburban K1500 SLE 4wd Turbo Diesel on eBay.  It has the 8 bolt 3/4 ton towing axles and a 3.42 rear.  I flew to Naples, Florida and drove her back to Georgia on petroleum diesel.  She got 22mpg!  She has the 6.5 TD with the updated block, HD water pump and dual thermostats.

I spent several months performing necessary maintenance on the drivetrain and suspension.  I relocated the PMD using a Heath diesel isolator to move the PMD all the way to behind the front bumper on an aluminum heatsync to make sure there are no heat issues on veggie or biodiesel.  The great gas mileage I experienced is due to the low gear ratio in the rear.  If I keep the engine RPMs between 1800 and 1900 rpm using cruise control, the engine is quiet and gets great mileage! (sweet spot for this truck)

I have a Frybrid Suburban veggie conversion kit sitting in the basement awaiting installation.  For now, she's running B100 poultry fat from US Biofuels in Rome, Georgia.  I buy it at SA White and ReFuel in downtown Atlanta.  Shamu's looking forward to the conversion and taking us on many veggie adventures!

The Frybrid Suburban SVO Conversion Kit Arrives!

I sold our 2000 Honda Odyssey minivan so we're an all diesel, all alternative fueled family now.

Stay tuned for more articles on the Frybrid Suburban Veggie Conversion Kit Installation and Clifford's Veggification too!
